About Dr. Dan Trathen



Dr. Daniel Trathen earned his BA in Psychology and two Master Degrees one of them in counseling. He has two earned doctorates. Dr. Trathen earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver and is a licensed psychologist.  He has been a Visiting Professor of Marriage & Family Therapy in conjunction to being a Graduate School adjunct professor since 1985.  In addition, he has taught as a Counseling Instructor in the Graduate Department at Simpson College. He is a Certified Business/Executive Coach and has traveled extensively internationally.

Dr. Trathen has over 40 years of counseling/coaching experience in individual, adolescent, premarital, marriage, and family counseling.  He also does life, business, and leadership coaching.  He has worked with Professional and Retired Sports individuals and couples for 25 years. He is a Director of Elite Sports Services in Denver, Colorado.  Dr Dan has advanced training in assessing and managing concussions.  In addition to his clinical background, he served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and is also a Retired Army Officer.  He is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  Dr. Trathen maintains an active national training, consulting/coaching, and teaching practice.

He has contributed numerous articles for several journals including “Marriage and Family: A Christian Journal.” He is a co-author of A Lasting Promise. This is a bestselling book on helping marriages get better. This book is published in English, Korean and Slovakian. The newly updated version was published by Jossey-Bass in 2014. Dr. Trathen is married has two adult children, and six grandchildren.
